Полиэтилен низкого давления (ПНД) аналогичен полиэтилену высокой плотности (по зарубежной маркировке HDPE – High Density PolyEthylene). Форма выпуска – полупрозрачные светлые гранулы.

Полимеризация этилена при производстве ПНД происходит в условиях низкого давления (1-5 кг/см²). При этом плотность вещества достаточно высока (0,945 г/см³). Гранулы ПНД имеют высокую степень кристаллизации и длинные полимерные цепи, что обуславливает густоту цвета и низкую прозрачность. Температура плавления – от 120-140 ℃С, что требует дополнительных энергозатрат при переработке. Совокупность физических и химических свойств обеспечивает высокую прочность пленок из гранул ПНД даже при экструзии малой толщины.

Изделия из полиэтиленов низкого давления представлены в двух основных группах: трубы и бытовая тара (пакеты). Трубы ПНД отличаются экологичностью и долговечностью. Они не подвержены разрушениям при замерзании воды, выдерживают переменные нагрузки от грунта, эластичны и просты в эксплуатации.

Бытовые пакеты из ПНД обычно матовые, шершавые на ощупь и издают характерный шуршащий звук при смятии. Чаще всего – это пакеты "майки". Отличаются минимальной стоимостью и высокой прочностью.
